THE LOWER SILESIAN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
The Lower Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra in Jelenia Góra was established in 1964. Its founder and long-standing first managingdirector was Stefan Strahl. Since 1990 Zuzanna Dziedzic has been managing director. Presently the first conductor is Jerzy Swoboda,incharge of artistic director. The repertoire of the Orchestra includes the most valuable world classic music of all epoch. The most distinguished musicians, conductors and soloists have performed with the Orchestra K.A.Kulka, K.Jakowicz, K.Danczowska, P.Paleczny, R.Lasocki, W.Ochman, M.Walewska, K.Penderecki, K.Kord, T.Bugaj, M.Pijarowski. Besides concerts in Jelenia Góra, the orchestra has participated in many of prestigious festivals : Warszawska Jesien, Wratislavia Cantans, , International Festival of Contemporary Music, Millennium Pace Festival - has performed in Palau de la Musica in Valencia. The orchestra has performed repeatedly in Germany, Italy, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Rep. and Spain. The orchestra participates In following editions "Ogolnopolski Festiwal", "Gwiazdy Promują", "Festiwal Muzyki Wiedeńskiej" and "Sileasien Sonans" The events are organized by Filharmonia Dolnoslaska. Since several years the orchestra has performed in concert-halls in important border towns in Germany, Czech Rep. and Poland, according to transborder cooperation in Euroregion Nysa. The Philharmonic has recorded 6 CD albums "Beethoven- Symphony n.9; Mendelssohn-Bartholdy " Elijah; J.S.Bach ,St.John Passion. The last one was recorded in March 2004 as a result of Euroregion`s projekt "At the meeting point of four cultures" , including works of composers from four border country and culture as well- Poland, Serbo-Lustian, Germany, Czech Rep In 2003/2004 The Philharmonic celebrated its 40th anniversary! Thehonorary patronage of celebration has been taken by President of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski. During the 40 years the orchestra has presented the most important works of world music literature and also contemporary compositions by Polish composers under the direction of outstanding conductors.
