The Silesian Quartet was founded in 1978 by the graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. It developed its skills at the master classes conducted by the members of such quartets as the LaSalle, Amadeus, Juilliard, Smetana and Berg.
The Quartet's repertoire includes over 300 pieces of chamber literature, of which almost 200 are by the 20th-century composers. The Silesian Quartet premiered over 80 works by Polish and foreign composers, many of which have been dedicated to the Quartet. The Silesian Quartet has given over 1000 concerts attracting enthusiastic critical response in many European countries, as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan , Hong Kong and South Korea.
They have regularly recorded for different radio stations and have
published 30 compact discs with music ranging from Haydn to Pendrecki.
